Areas affected...Eastern NC

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 166...

Valid 131945Z - 132115Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 166
continues.

SUMMARY...Ongoing supercell will continue to pose a hail/wind risk
beyond 20Z expiration time of WW 166. The expiration time of WW 166
has been locally extended to 22Z to cover this threat.

DISCUSSION...At 1940Z, a long-lived supercell with a history of
producing large hail is moving east-southeastward across Beaufort
County, NC. While this cell has weakened slightly over the last
hour, MLCAPE of 1000-1500 J/kg and effective shear greater that 50
kt should be sufficient to sustain this supercell past the original
20Z expiration time of WW 166, and the expiration time has been
locally extended to 22Z. Thus far, no additional thunderstorm
development has been noted along the frontal boundary, other than
along the Outer Banks. While additional development cannot be
entirely ruled out, the primary remaining severe threat will likely
be associated with the ongoing supercell.
