Areas affected...northeast Colorado

Concerning...Severe Thunderstorm Watch 344...

Valid 090019Z - 090145Z

The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 344
continues.

SUMMARY...Severe thunderstorms capable of large hail and strong,
gusty winds will continue for the next several hours. A tornado or
two cannot be ruled out.

DISCUSSION...A trio of supercell thunderstorms continue southeast of
the Denver metro. Recent mPing reports suggest these supercells are
capable of producing between 1.5-2" diameter hail, with the latter
being reported earlier in Castle Rock. The large-scale environment
remains supportive of supercells with mixed-layer CAPE in excess of
1000 J/kg and deep-layer shear greater than 60 knots as sampled by
00Z Denver sounding.

As these thunderstorms continue east-southeast, the potential for a
tornado or two should increase as greater low-level moisture
contributes to lower LCLs and vigorous updrafts interact with the
low-level vorticity associated with the Denver Cyclone.

Lastly, additional thunderstorms are developing along the higher
terrain of Boulder County. Although the low-level thermal
environment is cooler north of the aforementioned supercells
southeast of Denver, the overall large-scale environment remains
supportive of supercell-like characteristics and large hail
potential.
