NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
0105 PM CDT Tue Oct 27 2020

Areas affected...Northwest Texas into western Oklahoma and southern
Kansas

Concerning...Freezing rain

Valid 271805Z - 272200Z

SUMMARY...Scattered freezing rain will persist into the afternoon
hours from northwest Texas into western/central Oklahoma and parts
of southern Kansas, but a gradual decrease in precipitation coverage
is expected heading into the late afternoon hours.

DISCUSSION...Temperatures across central Oklahoma have warmed
through the late morning hours to at or just above freezing roughly
along and east of the I-44 corridor. To the west of this line,
sub-freezing temperatures continue to support freezing rain as
precipitation persists along the low/mid-level warm frontal zone
from northwest TX into southern KS. Although this band of
precipitation is expected to continue through the early/mid
afternoon hours, gradual frontolysis may lead to increasingly
scattered areas of freezing rain by 22-00 UTC. Warming within the
lowest 1 km of the layer will limit the sleet potential to some
degree, though an occasional mix of sleet and freezing rain will
continue to be possible.

Freezing rain accumulation will continue to be most likely across
northwest TX into western OK where temperatures will remain below
freezing. The duration and coverage of freezing rain is less certain
for central OK due to very gradual warming and temperatures hovering
near the freezing mark. Regardless, the potential for widespread
power outages will remain high as ice accumulation on trees,
combined with 10-15 mph wind, continues. Temperature trends will
continue to be monitored through the afternoon and evening hours
ahead of another round of precipitation that is expected later
tonight.
